Box Score WESTON, Mass. – The Roger Williams women's tennis team picked up another early season non-conference victory Thursday afternoon, defeating Regis 7-2.
Roger Williams picked up the first point of the match from third doubles, where the team of
Izzy Pecora (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) and
Olivia Santoro (Cheshire, Conn.) earned an 8-1 win over their opponents.
First and second doubles were battles that went into tiebreakers, with the Hawks second doubles pairing of
Gianna Ferraro (Westerly, R.I.) and
Gracie McCarthy (Marion, Mass.) edged out Katelyn Mogelnicki and Stephanie Beatrice. The Pride picked up their first point of the match with a tiebreaker win in first doubles.
In the singles portion of the match, Santoro earned a 6-1, 6-0 victory in sixth singles, before
Alessia Cahoon (Dedham, Mass.) earned a 6-0, 6-1 win in third singles, moving the Hawks to within one of clinching the match, which Ferraro would do with a 6-1, 6-1 victory in the No. 2 singles match shortly after.
McCarthy and Pecora picked up victories in fourth and fifth singles respectively, before Regis' Kiana Thompson earned a victory in first singles to close the match.
Roger Williams (2-0, 0-0 CCC) will face Saint Anselm on Sunday, Sept. 11 with the match beginning at 1 pm in Manchester, N.H. The Hawks will then begin Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) play on Wednesday, Sept. 14 at Curry.
