BRISTOL, R.I. - The Roger Williams men's basketball team overpowered UNE in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) play, 94-75, in the Campus Rec Center.
With an impressive 32 points, and nearly half of those coming from his five three-pointers, Mac Annus (Belmont, Mass.) was the Hawks' top scorer. Ty Higgins (New Marlborough, Mass.) had 15 points, three assists, and two steals. Nate Lopes (Scituate, Mass.) earned 14 points, 13 defensive rebounds, and two blocks. The fourth player to score in double figures, John Ah Kao (Dumont, N.J.) scored 14 points, while puling down eight total rebounds, and dishing two assists.
On the Nor'Easters side, five players scored in double-digits. On top was Winston Bryan with 16 points. Kyle Lombardi scored 14 points and had nine rebounds.
Putting the Hawks on the board was Annus with a jumper. A series of shots by the Nor'Easters pulled them ahead of the Hawks, 18-14, with half of the period remaining. Following a couple of free-throws by Ah Kao four three-pointers were put in allowing Roger Williams to regain the lead, 28-22, with around eight minutes left in the first half. The Hawks stayed ahead, with the score at 45-36 going into the second half.
Lopes started scoring in the second half with a pair of free-throws. Eight layups were made in the period, four of them being put in by Ah Kao. Scoring for the Hawks was rounded out by Higgins with 19 seconds remaining in the game.
The Hawks led the Nor'Easters in rebounds, 41-37, and blocks, 3-1. The teams were tied with seven steals each.
Roger Williams (12-7, 9-3 CCC) continue in CCC play against Western New England on Wednesday, February 1 at 7:30 pm in an away game before hosting Gordon on Saturday, February 4.
