BIDDEFORD, Maine – The Roger Williams University men's basketball defeated the University of New England, 87-66, Tuesday evening at the Harold Alfond Forum in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action.
The Hawks scored 21 points off of turnovers to the Nor'easters six points. Roger Williams bench outscored the Nor'easters bench by 14, with nine points coming off fast break points. They also tallied 56 points in the paint in the matchup as well.
Mac Annus (Belmont, Mass.) tallied 19 points in the contest, with a solid 7-for-10 performance on the day, with four rebounds and two steals and a block.
Will MacDonald (York, Maine) added 17 points shooting 50 percent from the floor, with secen rebounds, and
Sean Gogolin (Winchester, Mass.) had 14 points with two steals and a block, and adding eight rebounds.
Nate Lopes (Scituate, Mass.) also scored in double-figures with 11 points.
In the first half, the Hawks led 11-10 with 11 minutes remaining in the opening frame. After the Nor'easters retook the lead with a layup from Evan Hauser, Roger Williams then outscored the University of New England, 20-10, over a span of 6:26 taking a 31-20 advantage. The Hawks went into the second half with a 44-28 lead.
The Hawks expanded their lead to 20 at the 10:19 mark of the second half when Annus knocked down a triple. Roger Williams led by as many as 25 after
Ty Higgins (New Marlborough, Mass.) knocked down a pair of free throws with 4:16 left, as they closed out the victory.
Roger Williams (7-4, 4-0 CCC) will receive a visit from Salve Regina on Thursday, Jan. 5 at 7:30 pm. The Hawks will then continue their CCC slate with their third straight conference game when they take on Gordon Saturday, Jan. 7 in Wenham, Mass.
