CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Roger Williams University sailing team picked up a fifth-place finish at the Open ACC Round 1B over the weekend, highlighting the top finish of a weekend that saw four finishes inside the top 10.
At Open ACCs, the Hawks boat combined for 212 points, finishing in fifth overall, 87 points behind the first-place team, Harvard, with 125 points. The Hawks top boat, with skipper
Kyle Pfrang (Suffolk, Va.) and crew
Julia O'Connor (Foxborough, Mass.) and
Hank Bailey (Chatham, Mass.) finished seventh in Division A with 115 points. The Hawks' Division A boat placed inside the top five, five times throughout the regatta.
In Division B,
Carlos Bermudez de Castro (La Coruña, Spain) paired with crew,
Carly Kiss (Pewaukee, Wis.) and
Jed Lory totaling 97 points through their 14 races. The boat combined for four top five finishes through their races, finishing in second once.
The Hawks also competed at Salve Regina for the Sister Esther Trophy. The Hawks had a pair of boats compete, finishing in sixth and seventh respectively. The top boat for the Hawks tallied 188 points with the Hawks 2 boat compiling 190 points.
In division A, the Hawks 1 boat of
Mathieu Dale (Christiansted, U.S. Virgin Islands) and
Michaela O'Donnell (Elyria, Ohio) tallied 84 points, with two first place finishes. The Hawks also saw the duo of
Jack Roman (Newport Beach, Calif.) and
Carter Sheehan (Middletown, R.I.) finished tied for fourth with 88 points.
In division B, the Hawks 1 boat of
Luke Hosek (Chicago, Ill.) and
Ethan Snyder (Sea Cliff, N.Y.) finished two points behind
Will Bailey (Chatham, Mass.) and
Frankie Sparrow for a sixth and seventh place finish respectively.
At the Stu Nelson regatta, hosted by Connecticut College, the Hawks closed out the weekend with the three division's combining for 298 points and a ninth-place finish on the weekend.
Roger Williams will return to the water on Saturday, Oct. 14 with four regattas scheduled for the weekend.
