BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University sailing team picked up a pair of top three finishes on the weekend, taking the top spot at the Nevins Trophy, before closing out the Women's Atlantic Coast Tournament in third.
At the Nevins Trophy, The Hawks took the top spot by three points, with 68 points in Division A, and another 55 points in Division B. The Hawks sat in front of Georgetown who had 126 points compiled.
Oliver Stokke (Santa Barbara, Calif.) sailed with Claire Buckley (Bridgewater, Conn.) and Ethan Snyder (Sea Cliff, N.Y.) as they compiled 58 points to finish fifth through their 10 races. Division B saw Drew Mastovsky (Marion, Mass.) with crew Addyson Fisher (Charleston, S.C.) and Dominique Spinola (Dartmouth, Mass.) earn 55 points, finishing eight points behind the Navy for first.
At the Women's Atlantic Coast Tournament, the Hawks placed third with 172 points, finishing 28 points ahead of fourth place St. Mary's. The Division A boat of Caylin Schnoor, Maggie Fleming, and Katy Benagh compiled 113 points to finish in seventh for the division. Tavia Smith (Wilmington, N.C.), Ruby Hope (Bellevue, Wash.) and Elyssa Franklin sailed to a second-place finish in Division B, adding 59 points.
Also sailing at the Savin Hill Invite, the Hawks raced to a ninth and 12th place finish in the regatta. The top boat for the Hawks had a pair of race wins, with a second-place finish. Ethan Burt (Hingham, Mass.) and Meg Woolverton raced to 64 points on the regatta in Division A, while Division B had Jakub Fuja (Glenview, Ill.) and Dawson Champbers-Tartaglino earn 80 points.
The Hawks weekend rounded out at the Captain Hurst Bowl, where they finished 11th in the field of 16 teams.
Roger Williams will host their annual Captain's Cup event on Homecoming and Family Weekend on Saturday, Oct. 21 while also going to the Open Atlantic Coast Championships for both Saturday and Sunday.
