BRISTOL, RI – The Roger Williams University sailing team competed over the weekend at the Atlantic Coast Open Championship this weekend, finishing fifth in the 18-team field.
The Hawks totaled 234 points finishing three points ahead of Yale and Stanford, and 27 points behind Coast Guard for fourth place. Harvard placed first overall with 179 points with Brown and Dartmouth finishing second and third respectively.
In Division A the Hawks boat, with skipper Kyle Pfrang (Suffolk, Va.) and crew Julia O'Connor (Foxboro, Mass.) and Reid Nelson picked up 145 points finishing in 12 for the division. The boat had three top five finishes with the Hawks' earning seven finishes inside the top 10.
Skipper Carlos Bermudez de Castro (La Coruña, Spain) and crew Carly Kiss (Pewaukee, Wis.) and Jed Lory combined to finish second in Division B with a total of 89 points. The boat battled to six top five finishes, including a first-place finish in their final race of the regatta.
The Hawks will return to action on Saturday Oct. 28 when they are slated to race in the Schell Trophy, Urn Trophy, Nickerson Trophy and BU Invite.
