Field Hockey: Hawks Fall to #20 MIT

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Roger William's University women's field hockey team fell to the MIT Beavers on Wednesday evening at Jack Barry Field with a final score of 4-1.

The Hawks had nine shots in the opening quarter, with the Engineers only taking six shots in the opening half.  In the second half, the Engineers dominated out shooting the Hawks 12-1. Goalkeeper Hannah Brazil (East Sandwich, Mass.) had nine saves in the match.

About twelve minutes into the first quarter Kelly Doherty (Mansfield, Mass.) took a shot to the net, however, MIT goalie Maeve Zimmer made a quick save. Immediately after, Doherty found the back of the net and scored the first shot of the game, making it her eighth goal of the season.

In the third quarter, Paige Forester and Eva Oppenheim both scored for the Beavers, putting them up 2-1.

In the final quarter of the match with six minutes on the scoreboard, MIT held their dominance over the Hawks with another set of goals by Forester and Oppenheim before time ran out.

The Beavers had the upper hand with total shots on goal during the match 13-8 while the Hawks put up a fight with saves 9-7.

Roger Williams (11-5, 3-1 CCC) will host Gordon College on Friday, Oct. 7 at 4:00 pm for their Senior Day at Bayside Field.
