BRISTOL, R.I. - The Roger Williams University men's basketball team fell to Endicott on Wednesday evening in a key Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action, dropping the contest, 76-74.
Will MacDonald (York, Maine) knocked down 10 shots from the floor, including four three-pointers, totaling 28 points while also pulling down four boards and a pair of assists. Nate Lopes (Scituate, Mass.) pulled down six rebounds, and added 13 points, including six from the free throw line. Mac Annus (Belmont, Mass.) and Max Manjos (Monroe, Conn.) also scored in double-figures scoring 12 and 10 points respectively. Philip Sughrue (Winchester, Mass.) pulled down a team-high seven rebounds and had five steals on the defensive end.
Jeff Hill and Jalen Echevarria combined for 35 points, with Hill adding 18 and Echevarria adding 17. Cam Homsey and Mark Barrett both pulled down double figure rebounds with 10 and 11 on the day.
After playing to a 4-4 tie in the early part of the matchup, the Gulls rattled off six straight points as they took a lead. Manjos then knocked down a three, jump starting the Hawk offense. After a jumper by Annus gave Roger Williams a one-point lead, Echevarria drained a three-pointer to retake the lead and help Endicott extend their lead to eight.
Roger Williams again retook the lead with a three pointer by Ty Higgins (New Marlborough, Mass.) on the fastbreak, with 5:02 remaining, and continued to trade blows with Endicott the rest of the first half, going into the break trailing 40-37.
After a three-pointer by Homsey gave the Gulls 12 points lead, Annus started a stretch of 11 straight points by the Hawks, including eight from MacDonald. Trailing 59-56 moments later, Annus and MacDonald again combined for five points, taking a two-point lead.
After a free throw by Homsey leveled the score at 71-71 heading into the final minutes, Lopes knocked down a pair of shots at the line, to take a two-point lead with 29 seconds remaining. On the following possession, Ty Vitko knocked down a three-pointer with 17 seconds lead to take a lead that the Gulls would not relinquish.
Roger Williams (13-11, 10-7 CCC) will host CCC leading Nichols on Saturday, Feb. 18 for Senior Day. The Hawks will then participate in a CCC Tournament Quarterfinal on Tuesday, Feb. 21.
