Babson Park, Mass.-- The Roger Williams University men's lacrosse team fell to Babson College on Saturday in their season opener, 12-10, in non-conference action.
Matt Halpin (Hanover, Mass.) and Kevin Murphy (Ramsey, N.J.) each scored three goals. AJ DaRin (Manlius, N.Y.) earned two goals and picked up a ground ball. Ryan Vendetti (Farmington, Conn.) and Jordan Pivarnik (Trumbull, Conn.) each picked up four ground balls, with Pivarnik winning nine face-offs.
On Babson, Chi Chi Price was the top scorer with five goals. Ryan Kenney earned two goals and two ground balls.
Babson scored three goals before Jack Kester (Londonderry, N.H.) put one in for the Hawks. The Beavers would get another shot in the net before Murphy scored a second goal for Roger Williams. The first period ended with Babson up 6-2.
Around four minutes into the second frame back-to-back goals were scored by Murphy and DaRin. The Beavers led the Hawks going into the second half, 9-5.
The Hawks saw back-to-back goals a second time in the third period, with Halpin scoring moments before DaRin, both goals were assisted by Vendetti.
Scoring for the Hawks was rounded out by Pat Barboza (Stamford, Conn.). In net, Max Kimmel (Milford, Conn.) made 23 saves on the day, compiling a .657 save percentage.
Roger Williams (0-1, 0-0 CCC) will be on the road again for their matchup against Lasell on Saturday, February 25 at 1 pm. They will then face Wheaton on Wednesday, March 1, at the Lyons.
