BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University men's lacrosse team fell 6-4 on Saturday, to No. 5 Nichols in a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Quarterfinal on Bayside Field.
Kevin Murphy (Ramsey, N.J.) scored a goal and an assist for two points on the day, with
Matt Halpin (Hanover, Mass.) also registering a pair of points with two goals.
Ryan Vendetti (Farmington, Conn.) had an assist and
Noah Ravas (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) was the fourth goal scorer for the Hawks.
Defensively
Max Kimmel (Milford, Conn.) saved 10 shots, with six goals allowed for an .625 SV%.
Kyle Zirn (Chester, N.H.) and
Tyler Zanini (Hopkinton, Mass.) each had four caused turnovers in the match with Zirn collecting three ground balls and Zanini grabbing six.
After the Bison scored with 2:14 remaining in the opening frame for the first goal of the game. Cian Keohane added another on a man-up opportunity to give the Bison a 2-0 advantage. Ravas then closed out the half with a goal with three seconds remaining to cut the Bison lead in half.
Nichols scored 1:54 into the third quarter, before
Matt Halpin recorded to goal to level the score in the third. Keohane then added one more with 1:43 left in the third to give Nichols a 4-3 advantage heading into the final frame.
Another goal by the Bison with 11:52 remaining put Nichols up 5-3, before Murphy scored 1:16 seconds later to cut the lead to one. With 2:48 in regulation, Hunter Ferreira closed out the contest to put Nichols up by two.
