Softball: Hawks Sweep Nor’Easters, Germano Tallies 100th Strikeout

BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams softball team came out on top in their double-header against UNE on Sunday afternoon, the first time that the Hawks have swept the Nor'Easters since 2017. The Hawks went 4-3 in game one and 3-1 in game two.

The seniors on the team were recognized in a pre-game ceremony. The six seniors honored were Alex Burdick (Jewett City, Conn.), Jax Beaulieu (Sandwich, Mass.), Emma MacLean (Newton, Mass.), Isabelle Rosado (Central Islip, N.Y.), Taylor Myers (East Haven, Conn.), and Kaylin Fehan (Plymouth, Mass.).

On the mound in game one, Myers pitched 4.2 innings, facing 22 batters, and recording four ground outs. Natalie Lundari (Flemington, N.J.) had 2.1 innings pitched to face 13 batters, earning three strikeouts. Raegan Germano (Old Tappan, N.J.) pitched 7.0 innings in game two. She faced 28 batters and struck out nine, reaching 100 strikeouts on the season.

At bat in game one, Kayleigh O'Connor (Southington, Conn.) recorded one hit, two runners batted in, and one run. Jamie Wells (Castle Rock, Colo.) added two hits and one RBI. In game two, Rosado had one hit and two RBIs. Caroline Thomas (Cranston, R.I.) recorded one run, one hit, and one runner batted in.

The Hawks stuck first in the bottom half of the first inning, with Rosado on third, Taylor Howell (Sandwich, Mass.) knocked a single up the middle, bringing in a run. With runners on first and second later in the inning, O'Connor hit a double bringing in a pair of runs to take a 3-0 lead. Wells then followed up with a single of her own to bring in O'Connor from third.

The Nor'Easters responded in the top of the after a double down the right field line, Megan Chamberlain hit a double to bring in Grace Tutt. A few batters later UNE was able to cut the lead down to two with Rebecca Dumont singling to left field for their second run of the game.

Neither team scored again until the sixth inning. The Nor'Easters scored on a throwing error by the catcher, putting the score with the Hawks up 4-3.

In game two, Roger Williams began scoring in the bottom of the fifth. O'Connor was on first base and Kasey Ruo (Smithfield, R.I.) was on third. Thomas hit a single toward the shortstop, batting in one runner for Ruo to score. Rosado then hit a double up the middle, bringing Thomas and O'Connor across home.

In the top of the seventh inning, the Nor'Easters scored their lone run of the game. Lindsay Joyal was on third and came in to home when Becca Dumont hit a double down the left field line.

This wraps up the season for Roger Williams softball.
