Box Score BOSTON, Mass. – The Roger Williams University women's tennis team closed out their trip to the Daly Field Complex with a 9-0 victory over non-conference opponent Simmons, to jump start their 2023 campaign.
With the win the Hawks move to 9-2 all time against the Sharks, including a 5-1 record on the road. Roger Williams is now riding a nine-match winning streak against Simmons.
In doubles action, the team of
Izzy Pecora (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) and
Ella Mancini (Middlebury, Conn.) defeated their opponents Sara Fucillo and Ainsley Foster, 8-2, in the No. 3 doubles matchup. The No. 1 doubles team of
Gianna Ferraro (Westerly, R.I.) and
Alessia Cahoon (Dedham, Mass.) then took down their foes, 8-1, before
Gracie McCarthy (Marion, Mass.) and
Olivia Santoro (Cheshire, Conn.) downed their opponents in No. 2 doubles with an 8-0 win.
In singles action McCarthy took the first point with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Fucillo in the No. 4 spot. Fifth Year, Cahoon then clinched the match with a 6-0, 6-1 win in her match at No. 2 singles.
Roger Williams closed out the match, sweeping the final four singles matches, to close out the win.
Roger Williams (1-0, 0-0 CCC) will play host to Division II Saint Anselm on Monday, Sept. 4 at 1:00 pm on the RWU Tennis Courts. The Hawks will then host Regis on Thursday, Sept. 7 at 4:00 pm.
