BRISTOL, R.I – The Roger Williams University sailing team kicked off their season over the weekend, picking up a win at the Bears Invite hosted by Brown, while also hosting the Mt. Hope Bay Invitational at Roger Williams.
At the Bears Invite, the Hawks watched as the pairing of
Luke Hosek (Chicago, Ill.) and
Ethan Snyder (Sea Cliff, N.Y.) combining for 26 points to lead the regatta with Brown's five boats finishing second through sixth.
Will Bailey (Chatham, Mass.) and
Hank Bailey (Chatham, Mass.) took eighth and
Ethan Burt (Hingham, Mass.) and
Peter Cotoia (South Yarmouth, Mass.) took ninth in the 15-team field.
At the Mt. Hope Bay Invite, The Hawks top boat of
Jakub Fuja (Glenview, Ill.) and
Frankie Sparrow finished with 88 points, good for a sixth-place finish overall. The duo finished one race in first and had a trio of second place finishes. The Hawks also had a 10
th and 11
th place finish for the regatta.
At MIT, the Hawks posted a ninth-place finish at the Toni Deutsch Regatta.
Katherine McGagh (League City, Texas) and
Ruby Hope (Bellevue, Wash.) each had a tallied 84 point in division A, while
Lucy Meagher (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) and
Maggie Fleming added 54 points in division B. The Hawks division B boat finished in fifth in the division B.
At Yale, Roger Williams saw an 11
th place finish in the 18-team field at the Harry Anderson Jr. Regatta.
Roger Williams is currently scheduled to take part in four regattas beginning on Saturday, Sept. 16 hosted by Brown, MIT, Harvard, and Yale.
