BRISTOL, R.I. – After suffering their first loss of the season, the Roger Williams University women's tennis team rebounded Tuesday afternoon for a 9-0 sweep of Emerson in non-conference action on the RWU Tennis Courts.
Ella Mancini (Middlebury, Conn.) remained unbeaten to begin her collegiate career, moving to 5-0 in both doubles and singles action.
In doubles action,
Gracie McCarthy (Marion, Mass.) and
Olivia Santoro (Cheshire, Conn.) took an 8-2 win in their doubles action, while the No. 3 doubles action
Izzy Pecora (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) and Mancini earned an 8-0 win, putting the Hawks up 2-0. In the top doubles pairing,
Gianna Ferraro (Westerly, R.I.) and
Alessia Cahoon (Dedham, Mass.) earned an 8-2 win for the Hawks to sweep doubles, 3-0.
At the No. 3 singles match, Pecora took a 6-0, 6-1 win in her match before Cahoon earned a 6-0, 6-2 win in her No. 2 singles match to clinch the match. Mancini then took her match at No. 6 singles, while McCarthy earned a 6-2, 6-1 victory in No. 4 singles. Santoro and Ferraro both earned their match wins in singles play with three set victories.
Roger Williams (4-1, 0-0 CCC) will take part in the Salve Grass Court Tournament hosted by Salve Regina on Thursday, Sept. 14 at 12:00 pm. The Hawks will then host Clark for a non-conference matchup on Saturday, Sept. 16 at 12:00 pm.
