PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Roger Williams University sailing team participated in the New England Inter-Collegiate Sailing Association (NEISA) Singlehanded Championships over the weekend, along with participating in regattas hosted by MIT, Harvard, and Yale.
In the Women's Singlehanded Championships, Lucy Meagher (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) represented the Hawks finishing 10th in the field with 86 points. In the Open Singlehanded Championships, Mathieu Dale (Christiansted, U.S. Virgin Islands) paced the Hawks with 106 points, finishing in seventh in the event. Kyle Pfrang (Suffolk, Va.) closed out the regatta in 11th with 152 points. Dale did pick up a first-place finish in the third race of the regatta.
At the Hatch Brown Trophy on Sunday the Hawks three divisions combined for a ninth-place finish, collecting 180 points. Yale took first in the regatta, with Harvard following for second. Aidan Hoogland (Chula Vista, Calif.) and Maren Matthews (Harbor Springs, Mich.) tallied 47 points in division A, good enough to finish seventh. Carlos Bermudez de Castro (La Coruña, Spain) and Carly Kiss (Pewaukee, Wis.) had 55 points in division B, while Oliver Stokke (Santa Barbara, Calif.) and Claire Buckley (Bridgewater, Conn.) added 78 points to round out the day.
At the Regis Trophy, Katie McGagh (League City, Texas) and Julia O'Connor (Foxborough, Mass.) earned 102 points in division A combined with 76 points from Michaela O'Donnell (Elyria, Ohio) and Ruby Hope (Bellevue, Wash.). Combined the Hawks closed out the regatta in 13th.
In the final regatta of the weekend at Yale, Roger Williams saw the team of Jack Roman (Newport Beach, Calif.) and Carter Sheehan (Middletown, R.I.) finished second with 56 points, 13 behind the first place team from Yale. The Hawks also saw Luke Hosek (Chicago, Ill.) and Ethan Snyder (Sea Cliff, N.Y.) finish in eighth for the weekend.
