Field Hockey: King Finds Back of Cage Four Times in Win Over Salve Regina

Box Score NEWPORT, R.I. – The Roger Williams University field hockey team showed up to play, using a high-powered offensive attack for an 8-1 victory over their former Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) rival Salve Regina on Tuesday evening on Gaudet Field.

The Hawks had a resounding 29 shots during the win, with 25 attempts on target. The Seahawks managed to earn 17 saves, with the Hawks earning 11 penalty corners in the contest.

Chelsea King (Schenectady, N.Y.) had four goals in the first half, also adding an assist, firing 10 shots, all on target. Hannah Brazil (East Sandwich, Mass) posted 10 saves in the matchup.

King's first goal came early in the match, happening 4:02 into the contest. The Roger Williams' offense continued to score, with Elizabeth Duquette (Pittsford, N.Y.) scoring with just 1:24 remaining in the opening quarter.

However, the Hawks' offense erupted for four goals in the second frame, lighting up the scoreboard, as King scored three times in the quarter. Maddy Monahan (Bristol, N.H.) assisted on King's third goal of the quarter, with a pass in front of the net. Hannah Timbrouck (Kingston, N.Y.) gave Roger Williams a 6-0 lead heading into the second half.

The Hawks added a pair of goals by Abigail Stevens (Brewster, Mass.) and Lauren Costanzo (North Andover, Mass.) in the second half, while Salve Regina's Kira Spedden managed to keep the game from being a shutout, scoring with 1:57 remaining.

Roger Williams (5-2, 1-0 CCC) will play at Endicott on Saturday, Sept. 23 at 1:00 pm in CCC action. The Hawks will then follow up with a pair of home contests against Eastern Connecticut State and Western New England on Wednesday, Sept. 27 and Saturday, Sept. 30 respectively.
