DUDLEY, Mass. – In their first Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) match of the season, the Roger Williams University women's tennis team fell to Nichols, 7-2, at the Robinson Tennis Courts on the Nichols College campus.

In doubles action, the Hawks dropped the No. 1 doubles match before Gracie McCarthy (Marion, Mass.) and Olivia Santoro (Cheshire, Conn.) picked up an 8-5 win at the No. 2 doubles spot.  In a hard-fought No. 3 doubles match, the Hawks' Izzy Pecora (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) and Ella Mancini (Middlebury, Conn.) fell, 8-6.

Trailing 2-1 in the match heading into singles play, Nichols picked up a win at the No. 1 singles spot, with Antonia Carrero, earning the victory for the Bison. In No. 5 singles, Nichols picked up another point moving to a 4-1 lead, before the No. 2 match went in favor of the Bison to clinch the victory.

In No. 6 singles, Mancini picked up the win, 3-6, 6-3, 10-7, before Nichols took the victory at No. 3 singles to close out the competition.

Roger Williams (5-2, 0-1 CCC) will play at Bridgewater State on Thursday, Sept. 21 at 3:30 pm before hosting Suffolk on Saturday, Sept. 23 for a CCC match at 12 pm on the RWU Tennis Courts.
