Box Score BEVERLY, Mass. – The Roger Williams University field hockey team went to Endicott on Saturday, afternoon, defeating the Gulls for the second time in program history, and winning in Beverly for the first time ever in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action, 3-2.
The Hawks, who entered the contest 0-9 against the Gulls on the road, picked up their first win in the victory at North Field. This was the Hawks first victory against the Gulls since Oct. 17, 2015.
Roger Williams led with 19 shots to the Gulls 16, while putting 15 of their attempts on target. The Hawks trailed in penalty corners, 12-9.
Chelsea King (Schenectady, N.Y.) led Roger Williams with two goals, with four shots on goal, while
Hannah Timbrouck (Kingston, N.Y.) tallied the third with three shots on goal.
Hannah Brazil (East Sandwich, Mass.) had three saves in five shot attempts that she faced.
After a scoreless first quarter, the Hawks saw Endicott take a 1-0 lead after she battled her way to the left wing, firing a shot into the bottom right corner.
In the second half, Roger Williams picked up a goal, with King collecting a rebounded shot, putting it past the Gulls goalkeeper. In the 47
th minute of the match, Timbrouck struck after
Grace Rocheleau (West Hartford, Conn.) found Timbrouck to put the Hawks up 2-1.
With 6:59 remaining in the contest, Kings struck again scoring after a defensive save by the Gulls' Meghan Lehouiller. Reagan Hicks scored late for Endicott with 1:58 remaining, cutting the Hawk lead down to one. Roger Williams would hold on for the win.
Roger Williams (6-2, 1-0 CCC) will host Eastern Connecticut State on Wednesday, Sept. 27 at 4:00 pm, before returning to CCC action on Saturday, Sept. 30 at 1:00 pm. The Hawks will then travel to Plymouth, N.H. on Wednesday, Oct. 4.
