BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University men's soccer team dropped their first win to the Anchormen of Rhode Island College on Wednesday afternoon on Bayside Field, 4-2, in non-conference action.
Roger Williams outshot RIC 22-9 in the matchup, with eight shots being placed on goal to the Anchormen's six. The Hawks also led in corner kicks with seven taken in the contest, six of which where in the second half.
CJ Sousa (Fall River, Mass.) and
Liam Blaisdell (Plymouth, Mass.) scored for the Hawks in the contest, while
Jack Avellar (Orleans, Mass.) made a pair of saves.
RIC struck first, when Braeden Cannon connected on a pass to Jonathan Oliveira, that the Anchormen's captain knocked in. With 6:48 remaining in the opening half, Joseph Scolaro put a shot into the back of the net, putting the Hawks down by two heading into the second half.
In the second half a goal by Sousa, cut the lead down to one, but the Anchormen saw Oliveira strike again, to regain a two-goal lead with 14:46 left in the contest. Blaisdell connected with a ball in from of the net in the 80
th minutes, before Tariq Adio put the ball behind Avellar to close out eh contest in the 81
st minute.
Roger Williams (1-1-1, 0-0-0 CCC) will face New Jersey City on Saturday, Sept. 9 at 1:00 pm on Bayside Field. They will then host Clark the following day, Sunday, Sept. 10, at 1:00 pm.
