BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University women's tennis team defeated Regis College on Thursday afternoon 8-1 on the RWU Tennis Courts.
The Hawks opened the match by sweeping all three doubles matches. At the No. 3 spot,
Izzy Pecora (Saratoga Springs, N.Y) and
Ella Mancini (Middlebury, Conn.) defeated their opponents, 8-0, before the No. 1 doubles pairing for the Hawks,
Gianna Ferraro (Westerly, R.I.) and
Alessia Cahoon (Dedham, Mass.), picked up an 8-5 win.
Gracie McCarthy (Marion, Mass.) and
Olivia Santoro (Cheshire, Conn.) picked up a win over Nora Connor and Harmony Lopez, 8-6.
Leading 3-0 entering singles play, the Hawks watched as McCarthy finished her match, 8-0, in pro set play. Santoro finished shortly after with an 8-1 win in her match at No. 5 singles clinching the match for the Hawks.
Roger Williams then saw Mancini win her match, 8-0, before Regis picked up their lone point of the match with a 8-3 victory by Kiana Thompson in No. 1 singles. The Hawks picked up wins in No. 2 singles and No. 3 singles, with Cahoon and Pecora earning 8-3 and 8-4 wins respectively.
Roger Williams (3-0, 0-0 CCC) hosts Wheaton on Saturday, Sept. 9 at 12:00 pm on the RWU Tennis Courts. The Hawks will then host their fourth straight match on Tuesday, Sept. 12 at 3:30 pm, before taking part in the Salve Grass Court Tournament on Thursday, Sept. 14.
