DUDLEY, Mass. – After a 4-0 win over No. 5 Curry on Tuesday, the No. 4 Roger Williams University women's tennis team will travel to No. 1 seeded Nichols on Thursday afternoon for a Conference of New England (CNE) semifinal match.
Nichols posted a 9-3 record, with a 6-0 CNE record on the season earning the top seed in the conference tournament. The Hawks come in with a 12-3 record, going 4-2 in CNE play.
The two teams faced off on Sept. 17, with the Hawks falling 6-1. Nichols has won the last four matches in the all-time series. The Hawks are 18-20 against the Bison all-time. The Hawks' previous win came in 2022 with a 5-4 victory over the Bison during the regular season.
Roger Williams' lineup will remain the same with No. 1 doubles taking place between the Hawks pairing of
Gianna Ferraro (Westerly, R.I.) and
Valentina Abarca (Riobamba, Ecuador) (6-1) taking on Nichols' Kamora Helton and Pamela Gonzalez Vallardi (9-3). No. 2 doubles will see
Izzy Pecora (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) and
Ella Mancini (Middlebury, Conn.) (3-1) combine to take on Antonia Carrero & Johanna Schroeder (8-3). At No. 3 singles the Hawks'
Gracie McCarthy (Marion, Mass.) and
Gabrielle Petroniro (Wolcott, Conn.) (9-4) will face Charis Vogler and Cora Brosch (7-1).
In singles play, the Bison will send out Helton (7-4) to match up with Ferraro (12-3) at No. 1 singles, and No. 2 singles will take place between Pecora (7-6) and Carrero (10-2). No. 3 Gonzalez Vallardi (6-6) will take on Abarca (12-3), while No. 4 singles will see Mancini (12-2) represent Schroeder (10-2). No. 5 singles will be the Bison's Vogler taking on
Adriana Palmieri (Southington, Conn.) and singles will see the No. 6 spot being filled by Brosch (5-3) and Petroniro (9-3).
The Hawks and Bison will face off on Thursday, Oct. 17 at 3:30 pm on the Robinson Tennis Courts on the campus of the Bison.
