GRANTHAM, PA. – The Roger Williams University field hockey team conceded to Messiah University, 6-1, on the road in the NCAA First-Round match on Wednesday.
The Hawks had a total of five shots throughout the match compared to Falcons' 26 shots.
Chelsea King (Schenectady, N.Y.) and
Lauren Costanzo (North Andover, Mass.) led the Hawks with shots this game having two each.
Abigail Stevens (Brewster, Mass.) also had a shot for the Hawks this match.
For penalty corners this game, the Hawks had just two chances where as the Falcons' 13 penalty corner opportunities.
Messiah had their first goal early on in the match, at just eight minutes into the first period by Leah Bryner. Less than four minutes later, the Falcons where able to put away another.
In the second period of the match, the Falcons scored their third goal of the match by Anna Koenig. It wasn't until the third period that they put away two more goals, one off a penalty stroke shot by Audrey Weger and the second just under a minute later by Bryner yet again.
By the final quarter of the game, the Falcon put their last shot into the net before the Hawks finally were able to get a goal by King with just six minutes remaining in the match.
Defensively this match, the Hawks'
Jill Haudenshield (Sykesville, Md.) and
Hannah Brazil (East Sandwich, Mass.) split the time in the net almost in half for the duration of the game with both goal keepers making five saves each during their time.
The Roger Williams field hockey team ends their 2024 season with an overall record of 16-7 and a 4-1 record in the Conference of New England (CNE).
