Men's Basketball: Hawks Use Strong Defensive Performance to Overcome Framingham State

FRAMINGHAM, Mass. – The Roger Williams University Men's Basketball team defeated the Rams of Framingham State, 70-54, on Wednesday evening in the Logan Gymnasium in the Framingham State Athletic & Recreation Center in non-conference action.
 
The Hawks shot 43.1 percent from the floor, with the Rams shooting 34.4 from the field. The Hawks also saw 36.4 percent of their shots from distance drop, while holding Framingham State to 26.3 percent. The Rams outrebounded the Hawks 40-33, while both teams grabbed 26 defensive boards. Both teams tallied 24 points in the paint, with the Rams outscoring the Hawks 21-4 in second-chance opportunities.
 
Mac Annus (Belmont, Mass.) scored 28 points, with five rebounds, while shooting 6-of-10 from the floor. Ty Higgins (New Marlborough, Mass.) and Finn Miller (Stamford, Conn.) each scored 11 points, with Miller also pulling down five rebounds. Higgins dished out three assists, one behind Nate Lopes (Scituate, Mass.) who tallied four helpers.
 
For the Rams, Adonis Vashon led the team with 10 points, and pulled down six rebounds, with a pair of blocks and a steal. Joshua Saint Jean had eight rebounds with six points in the matchup with three boards on the offensive end.
 
An opening three-pointer by Ty Higgins kicked off scoring in the matchup before Marshall Kerley responded with a three for the Rams. After a jumper by Kyle Philiston pulled the Rams within two, the Hawks went on a 10-2 run over 2:37 minutes of play, where Ryan Higgins (Boston, Mass.) knocked down a pair of three-pointers, shooting 4-4 from the floor during the stretch.  Roger Williams went into the halftime break with a 40-28 lead.
 
After a bucket by Kerley pulled Framingham State within nine, the Hawks responded back emphatically, outscoring the Rams 26-12, over a 12:15 stretch, taking control going 10-18, with four threes in the stretch. The Hawks were able to hold onto a 20 point advantage with 3:00 remaining in the contest, but the Rams were unable to cut into the deficit as the Hawks won their third straight.
 
Roger Williams (2-1, 0-0 CNE) will host Wheaton on Tuesday, Nov. 26 at 3:30 pm before being off until Sunday, Dec. 1 at 2:00 pm at Connecticut College.  The Hawks will then open up Conference of New England (CNE) competition on Wednesday, Dec. 4 at 7:30 pm against Wentworth.
