NEWPORT, R.I. – The Roger Williams University sailing team placed no lower than third, during the weekend of competition ending on Saturday.
The Hawks placed first and third at the Salve Regina Team Race Invite, with
Drew Mastovsky, Yasar Akin, and
Jack Roman serving as the team's skippers and
Maren Matthews,
Dawson Chambers-Tartaglino, and
Carter Sheehan acting as the team's crew.
The Hawks posted a 8-2 finish by the first place boat, with their two losses coming in the second round of racing against both Brown boats. The Hawks 8-2 record matched Brown's second boat's record, but the Hawks held the edge in the tiebreaker with total points in the team's races.
The Hawks also put a second boat out, placing third, with a 5-5 record. Again winning a tiebreak with a Brown boat. The Hawks went 2-3 in round one with a 3-2 record in the second round of racing as
Luke Hosek,
Tavia Smith and
Will Bailey served as skippers and
Ethan Snyder,
Katy Benaugh, and
Ruby Hope.
At the St. Mary's Team Race, the Hawks placed second with
Aidan Hoogland, Carlos Bermudez de Castro, and
Oliver Stokke as skippers and
Michaela O'Donnell,
Jed Lory,
Hank Bailey,
Carly Kiss, and
Claire Buckley as crew.
The Hawks went 17-4 in their races, with Stanford going 18-3 overall placing first. The Hawks went 7-1 in the first round before going 6-2 in the second round, clinching a spot in the Championship Round, Roger Williams then went 4-1 in the championship round, but fell to Stanford, by one race.
In the final regatta of the weekend, the Hawks placed third at the Wood Trophy, going 9-8. The Hawks had

The Hawks posted a 2-5 record in the opening round, rebounding for a 6-1 record in round two. With a 1-2 record in the Gold round, the Hawks edged out with a 2-1 record against MIT, to break the tie.
