ORLANDO, Fla. – The Roger Williams University women's tennis team defeated St. Norbert, 9-0, in the first ever meeting between the two programs, at the USTA National Campus to begin their Spring Break contests Sunday.
Roger Williams opened up with a No. 1 doubles victory by
Alessia Cahoon (Dedham, Mass.) and
Gianna Ferraro (Westerly, R.I.), 8-5, and followed with a No. 3 doubles victory by
Adriana Palmieri (Southington, Conn.) and
Ella Mancini (Middlebury, Conn.), 8-6. The Hawks completed the doubles sweep with an 8-5 win at No. 2 doubles by
Gracie McCarthy (Marion, Mass.) and
Olivia Santoro (Cheshire, Conn.).
The Hawks opened up with a win by Cahoon in No. 2 singles, 6-0, 6-0, before
Izzy Pecora (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) earned a No. 3 singles win, 6-0, 6-1, to clinch the match.
Mancini remained unbeaten in singles play on the season, taking the No. 6 singles match, 6-3, 6-2, ahead of Ferraro earning a 7-6, 6-0 win at No. 1 singles. Santoro took her match at No. 5 singles in three sets, 6-4, 2-6, 10-3, before McCarthy finished off the sweep with a 6-1, 5-7, 10-6 win at No. 4 singles.
Roger Williams will play their second of four matches in Florida on Monday, Mar. 12 at 11 at 3:00 pm at the USTA National Campus against Edgewood.
