BIDDEFORD, Maine – The Roger Williams University men's lacrosse team took a19-10 victory over the University of New England Nor'easters on Saturday at Blue Bolt Field, in a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) matchup.
Matt Halpin tallied seven points on the day, scoring three goals and dishing out four assists.
Matt Hemmert continued to score goals at a high clip, adding six to his tally on the season, scoring his 48
th goal of the season.
Kyle Zirn had four caused turnovers with a pair of ground balls on the day, with
Michael Bussinelli and
Chris Giorgi each added a pair of each.
Aaron D'Aversa had seven saves in the win.
Jack Kester opened the scoring with a goal, 1:30 into the matchup, before
Matt Kennedy and
Matt Halpin each added a goal, taking an early 3-0 lead in the opening 4:13 of play. The Nor'easters struck a minute later, but Roger Williams again took a 6-1 lead. The Hawks conceded a goal to UNE, but the Hawks saw
Eric Brooks and
Ryan Vendetti tally goals, taking an 8-2 lead. The Nor'easters added a pair of goals in to close out the opening half, trailing 8-4.
Roger Williams used a big third quarter, outscoring the Nor'easters 7-3, and 4-3 in the fourth quarter closing out the win.
Roger Williams (9-2, 2-0 CCC) will host Wentworth on Wednesday, Apr. 3 at 4:00 pm before hosting Gordon for Senior Day on Saturday, Apr. 6 at 2:00 pm.
