BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University sailing team opened up the spring semester schedule over the weekend, racing in four regattas at three locations.
The Hawks placed first at the Thames Rivier Team Race on Saturday going a perfect 6-0 with
Kyle Pfrang,
Jack Roman,
Will Bailey, and
Luke Hosek serving as the team's skippers, while
Julia O'Connor,
Maren Matthews,
Ruby Hope, and
Ethan Snyder were the crew. The Hawks sailed to a first and second place finish in three races, while also finishing first in another two.
Saturday afternoon at the McMerrick Cup the Hawks placed second in the five team field with a 6-1 record in the team race. In the opening round, the Hawks' boats finished first and second against Salve Regina and Mass. Maritime to help secure the victory. Roger Williams also placed first against Vermont in the opening round with the three boats finishing in first, third and fourth. The Lone loss came against Brown who went 4-0 in both the first and second round of racing.
In round two the Hawks posted a 3-1 record again, with Brown again being the lone drop for the Hawks racers.
Jakub Fuja (Glenview, Ill.),
Jack Crager, and
Peter Cotoia (South Yarmouth, Mass.) served as the Hawks skippers and
Lexi Chigas,
Meg Woolverton,
Madelyn LaScala, and
Dominique Spinola were crew for the Hawks boats.
The Hawks also competed in the Sharpe Trophy Team Race hosted by Brown, the Hawks posted a 7-7 record in two rounds of sailing, going 3-4 through the opening round with wins over Boston College, Brown's second team and the University of Rhode Island. In Round two the Hawks went 4-3 with wins over Brown 2, Boston College, URI and Yale.

Michaela O'Donnell,
Clair Buckely,
Carly Kiss,
Addyson Fisher, and
Julia O'Connor.
The Hawks finished in ninth at the Harvard Women's Team Race going 1-6 in their seven races.
Caylin Schnoor,
Lucy Meagher, and
Tavia Smith served as the skippers while
Elyssa Franklin,
Maggie Flemming, and
Katy Benagh were the crew.
On Sunday at the McMerrick Cup, the Hawks went 1-4 placing sixth overall.
Roger Williams will continue sailing competition on Saturday, Mar. 9 and Sunday, Mar. 10.
