DAVENPORT, Fla. – The Roger Williams University baseball team swept Penn State Altoona on Saturday at Myrtle Lake Park by identical 7-5 scores, to remain unbeaten in their Spring Break Trip.
In game one,
Ty Cali (Taunton, Mass.) recorded a triple and a double in a 2-for-4 outing, brining in two runs on the game.
Aidan Hawley (Natick, Mass.) added a pair of hits with an RBI, while
Dennis Folan (Medfield, Mass.) brought in a run with a double.
James Nichols (Bridgewater, Mass.) earned his first career victory, coming in in relief, throwing and innings worth of work, with one hit, and a walk, while facing five batters.
MarkAnthony Glickman (Newbury, Mass.) earned the save coming throwing an inning with two strike outs in 11 pitches.
In the first inning, with runners on second and third, a passed ball allowed
London Camelo to score the first run of the game for Roger Williams. In the bottom half of the inning for the Lions, Jonathan Rauch and Corey Chamberlain each hit RBI doubles to take the lead 2-1.
The Hawks responded with Cali hitting a triple to right center field to bring in
Owen Hibbard (Roxbury, Conn.) in the top of the second, leveling the score 2-2. Altoona then took the lead with a bases loaded walk, before Roger Williams responded in the fourth with Hawley hitting a single up the middle to bring in Folan, leveling the score at three apiece.
The Lions, tacked two more on in the fifth, before the Hawks took over. Roger Williams added a run in the sixth with Cali hitting a double to right field with
Nick Sheehan (Medway, Mass.) scoring from second base. The Hawks then added two more in the top of the s(eventh inning with a sacrifice fly by Folan and followed with a error by the Lions shortstop to take the lead 7-5, scoring two on the error. Glickman then held Penn State – Altoona scoreless to close the contest.
In game two,
Lucas Lariviere (Cumberland, R.I.) picked up his first win of the season, with a five-inning outing, giving up seven hits, four runs, and three walks, with three strike outs facing 24 batters, with 90 pitches.
Jack Morin (North Andover, Mass.) went 3-for-4 with three RBIs with Hawley,
Christopher Flynn (Randolph, N.J.), Camelo, and Hibbard each recording an RBI.
Camelo opened the game with a single through the right side to bring in Hawley. The Hawks then added another run, with Morin knocking a double to right center to bring in Camelo. In game two, Altoona again responded by leveling the score in the second inning, 2-2 after a single to right field, before another single up the middle gave the Lions the 4-2 lead.
Roger Williams then scored five straight runs, including a Flynn homer to right field, to take a 7-4 lead between the third and fourth innings.
Penn State – Altoona added a run in the top of the seventh but were unable to overcome the deficit falling.
Roger Williams (3-0, 0-0 CCC) will face off against Stockton on Sunday, Mar. 10 at 7:00 pm at Lake Myrtle Park, before playing Mount Saint Mary at Northeast Regional Park on Tuesday, Mar. 12 at 12:15 pm.
