MILTON, Mass. – The Roger Williams University baseball team defeated Curry on Tuesday afternoon, 20-6, in a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) contest at Jack Valley Diamond, winning in eight innings.
Nick Sheehan (Medway, Mass.) had five RBIs with a pair of hits, one a home run, while
Jack Morin (North Andover, Mass.) and
Ethan Keeney (Harwich, Mass.) each added three RBIs in the contest. Defensively,
JT Gunzy (Danbury, Conn.) earned his second win of the season, pitching five innings, giving up six runs with 10 hits allowed.
Roger Williams struck in the first when Morin put a ball into play, that the third baseman for Curry misplayed for a run. The Hawks then added another four runs, one off a bases loaded hit by pitch, and the next three off a Keeney double to center field.
The Hawks added another run in the second inning with Camelo brining a run in on a ball hit to short, but Curry responded with six runs in the bottom half of the inning to tie the game, 6-6.
Roger Williams scored a run in the top half of the third, but a grand slam in the top of the sixth inning by Sheehan, his second of the year, propelled the Hawks to a 11-6 lead. Roger Williams added another pair of runs in the inning to take control, 13-6, before closing out the game with another seven runs, two in the seventh, and five in the eighth.
Roger Williams (21-6-1, 8-2 CCC) will host #18 Eastern Connecticut State on Thursday, Apr. 25 at 3:30 pm. The Hawks will then host Nichols for a CCC doubleheader on Saturday, Apr. 27.
