Baseball: Hawks Pick Up First Loss of CCC Tournament to #1 Endicott

BEVERLY, Mass. – The Roger Williams University baseball team fell to the No. 1 seed in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) #1 Endicott on Friday morning, 4-1, dropping to the elimination bracket.
 
On the mound, John Connolly picked up the win for the Gulls, moving to 8-0 on the season, going 6.1 innings with one earned run five walks, and two strikeouts. Will Fox picked up the save, recording eight outs with one hit and three strikeouts.
 
For the Hawks, Louie Mosca (Old Tappan, N.J.) pitched six innings giving up four earned runs, allowing nine hits with four strikeouts. James Nichols (Bridgewater, Mass.) took the mound pitching two innings with three Ks and one hit.
 
At the dish, Joey Frammartino had three hits with an RBI and Brendan O'Neil had a pair of hits with two RBIs. Brendan Walsh also added a pair of hits, coming across to score. Roger Williams had an RBI from Aidan Hawley (Natick, Mass.), while London Camelo (Bristol, R.I.) and Chris Faraca (Peabody, Mass.) each added a hit in the contest. Ethan Keeney was the lone Hawks to cross home plate.
 
With runners on first and third, Danny MacDougall took off for second base on a steal attempt, as Frammartino took off from third to go home, with both reaching safely on the double steal attempt, taking a 1-0 lead. MacDougal then took third, before O'Neill hit a single to center field that MacDougal scored on.
 
In the top of the second base, Keeney stood on third and Nick Sheehan (Medway, Mass.) on second after a wild pitch. Hawley then hit a single to center field bringing in Keeney, Sheehan attempted to come home, Brenden Walsh then fired a ball from center field to John Mulready who was able to tag Sheehan for the out, 2-1.
 
Endicott responded in the bottom of the second inning, when Frammartinio hit a single to center, bringing in Walsh to regain a two run lead. The Gulls tacked on another run in the fifth when O'Neil hit a single to center field, taking a 4-1 lead. The Gulls held Roger Williams scoreless throughout the rest of the contest.
 
No. 2 Roger Williams (24-12-1, 9-5 CCC) will face the winner of No. 3 Suffolk and No. 5 Western New England later this afternoon.
