Box Score BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University women's tennis team fell, 6-1, on Tuesday afternoon at the RWU Tennis Courts to the Bison of Nichols College in Conference of New England (CNE) action.
Nichols jumped out to a strong start in doubles action as the team of Antonia Carero (Hamberg, Germany) and Johanna Schroeder (Mexico City, Mexico) defeated their opponents at No. 2 doubles, 6-0. Kamora Helton (Ardmore, Pa.) and Pamela Gonzalez Vallardi (Mexico City, Mexico) defeated
Gianna Ferraro (Westerly, R.I.) and
Izzy Pecora (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.), 6-2, securing the doubles point at No. 1 doubles.
Nichols secured the final match in doubles play with Charis Vogler (Brandenburg, Germany) and Cora Brosch (Papendorf, Germany) defeated
Gracie McCarthy (Marion, Mass.) and
Gabrielle Petroniro (Wolcott, Conn.) by an identical 6-2 score to close out doubles action.
In singles action, the No. 2 singles match went in favor of Carrero, before earning a No. 5 singles win from Vogler over
Adrianna Palmieri (Southington, Conn.), 6-1, 6-1. The Bison clinched the match at No. 6 singles with Brosch earning a 6-3, 6-3 win over Petroniro.
Valentina Abarca (Riobamba, Ecuador) earned the lone win for the Hawks at No. 3 singles, defeating Gonzalez Vallardi, 6-3, 6-4. The Bison then saw Schroeder and Helton earn wins at No. 4 singles nd No. 1 singles respectively to hold the Hawks to the lone point.
Nichols (2-0, 1-0 CNE) will turn their attention to Colby-Sawyer who they will host on Wednesday, Sept. 18 tilt at 4:00 pm at the Robinson Tennis Courts.
Roger Williams (5-2, 0-1 CNE) will take on Curry on Saturday, Sept. 21 at noon, before hosting Bridgewater State on Thursday, Sept. 26 at 4:00 pm.
