BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Field Hockey team picked up a Conference of New England (CNE) win against Gordon College on Friday evening, 8-0, on Bayside Field.
The Hawks controlled every aspect of the game as they tallied 43 shots in the game, putting 31 on target, while holding Gordon without a shot in the contest. Penalty corners were also 11-1 in favor of Roger Williams.
Gordon's Allyson Stauffer has 22 saves in the contest, falling to 1-13 on the season. Hannah Brazil (Sandwich, Mass.) picked up the win playing the opening 30 minutes of action.
The Hawks struck in the first quarter as Eva Wood (Sandwich, Mass.) slotted her first goal of the day, off of a pass from Maddy Monahan (Bristol, N.H.). Four minutes later, Chelsea King (Albany, N.Y.) sent a pass over to Wood, who would tack on another goal. Just under four minutes later, King would strike again to bring the score to 3-0.
The Hawks struck again in the second, when Emma Sheldon (Suffield, Conn.) was able to sneak past the Scots keeper. The score stayed at 4-0 going into halftime.
Coming back from halftime, the Hawks would strike in the opening three minutes as Lexi Yost (Swansea, Mass.) scored. In the last two minutes of the third period, Emiley Vinciguerra (Pelham, N.H.) tallied her first goal of the season and her RWU career, bringing the score to 6-0.
The Hawks tallied another goal in the fourth, with Wood slotting another goal, unassisted. Brodie Loveland (West Milford, N.J.) scored the final goal of the game, assisted by Lily Tobin (Sandwich, Mass.), to secure the shutout, 8-0.
Gordon (1-12, 1-4 CNE) will host Rivier on Friday, Oct. 17 at 4:00 pm. The Scots will then host the University of New England in Conference of New England (CNE) action on Saturday, Oct. 18 at 12 pm.
Roger Williams (10-4, 5-0 CNE) will travel to Salve Regina on Wednesday, Oct. 15 for a 6:00 pm matchup ahead of a Saturday, Oct. 18 tilt in Beverly, Mass. against Endicott.
