BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Women's Tennis team defeated the University of Saint Joseph on Thursday afternoon, downing the Blue Jays 6-1, remaining unbeaten on the season.
Opening with doubles play, the Hawks saw Adriana Palmieri and Gabrielle Petroniro win their match at No.3 doubles, 6-0, ahead of Izzy Pecora and Ella Mancini doing the same at the No. 2 doubles spot to secure the point. Valentina Abarca and Megan Bache combined for a 6-4 win at the No. 1 doubles spot over Maddie Rossetti and Lili Garcia.
In singles action, Mancini secured the second point for RWU with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Gia Alvarez, ahead of Petronio's 6-1, 6-1 victory over Jillin Milo. The Hawks then secured the match with Palmieri taking No. 5 singles 6-0, 6-1.
Pecora also earned a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 2 singles ahead of Bache picking up a 6-0, 6-2 win over her opponent at No. 4 singles. The match was rounded out with a marathon between Rossetti and Abarca at the top singles spot, with Rossetti battling back to score the lone point for the Blue Jays, 0-6, 7-5, 10-6.
Roger Williams (12-0, 7-0 CNE) will travel to face Gordon on Saturday, Oct. 18 at 1:00 pm. The Hawks will then face Nichols on Wednesday, Oct. 22 at 4:00 pm.
