Field Hockey: Owls Strike First, Hawks Rally for Three in First Half to Down Keene State

BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Field Hockey team defeated Keene State on Thursday afternoon, 3-1, on Bayside Field in non-conference action.

The Hawks out shot the Owls 17-14, while putting 14 total shots on target to Keene State's seven. The Hawks trailed in penalty corner opportunities 4-3, as Molly Diamondstein had 11 saves with three goals allowed. Hannah Brazil (Sandwich, Mass.) had six saves in the match while holding the Owls to one goal.

Keene State struck first, as Grace Bazin scored her 33rd goal of the season 6:27 into the contest. Hannah Timbrouck (Kingston, N.Y.) then responded for the Hawks with a goal 2:54 later to level the match.

Heading into the second quarter, Lily Tobin (Sandwich, Mass.) found a ball off the edge of the goal from Grace Rocheleau (West Hartford, Conn.) and was able to slide it off the back corner of the net by Diaomondstein to give the Hawks their first lead of the game. Just over 5 minutes remaining before the end of the half, the Hawks so Tobin repay the favor, finding Chelsea King (Albany, N.Y.) for her 22nd of the season, to give the Hawks a 3-1 lead.

In the third quarter, the Hawks looked to expand their lead with 1:35 remaining as Elizabeth Duquette (Pittsford, N.Y.) shot a ball to the top of the cage, Diamondstein then made a jumping stick save to keep the Hawks at bay for the interim.

Despite numerous opportunities in the fourth quarter, the Owls were unable to garner any momentum, eventually falling.

Roger Williams (12-5, 5-1 CNE) will host Western New England to close out Conference of New England (CNE) play. The Hawks will then round out the regular season on Saturday, Oct. 29 at 6:00 pm at MIT before beginning the CNE Tournament.
