Celebrating Senior Day in style, Roger Williams University women's tennis team pushed its unbeaten streak to double digits on Saturday, improving to 10-0 overall and 4-0 in conference play with a dominant 7-0 sweep of the University of New England at the RWU Tennis Courts.
The Hawks secured the doubles point by taking two of three matches. At No. 2, Izzy Pecora (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) and Ella Mancini (Middlebury, Conn.) battled to a 6-1 win. At No. 3, Adriana Palmieri (Southington, Conn.) and Gabrielle Petroniro (Wolcott, Conn.) rolled to a 6-1 victory. The lone setback came at No. 1, where Valentina Abarca (Riobamba, Ecuador) and Megan Bache (Westbrook, Conn.) dropped a 4-6 decision.
In singles play, Abarca bounced back with a 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 1, while Pecora cruised to a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 2. Mancini followed with a 6-2, 6-4 victory against Lemezan at the No. 3 spot.
