BRISTOL, R.I. – The Roger Williams University Wrestling team saw their 2025 come to a close on Saturday, hosting the Scott Viera Open in the Campus Rec Center Field House.
At 174 pounds,
Tyrell Newmann placed second, posting a 3-1 record before falling to His opponent via medical forfeit.
Matthew Gish posted a strong 4-1 record on the day with two wins by fall before falling 17-2 by tech fall in the finals.
Joshua Nieroda did the same at 184, with three of his four wins coming by fall, while falling in a tightly contested bout to Zachary Miller of Johnson & Wales.
David Ras was one of three third place finishers for the Hawks on the day, falling in his second match of the day to eventual champion Jacob Deguire, while defeating Western New England's Jack Ramondetta.
First-year
Anton Puhach finished third, winning his bout with Daniel De Almeida by fall in 2:07 to secure the win. Puhach pinned four opponents on the day. Rounding out placers for the Hawks was
Jayden Toppan who picked up a win by fall in his final match of the day.
Roger Williams will return to competition on Saturday, Jan. 3 when they host New England College and King's for a pair of duals.
