NEWPORT, R.I. — Roger Williams erased a nine-point halftime deficit and closed the game on a decisive late run to defeat Salve Regina 87–84 on Tuesday afternoon at Rodgers Recreation Center.
Ryan Hammarlund poured in a game-high 27 points to lead the Hawks, outscoring the Seahawks 50–38 after intermission. Philip Sughrue added 14 points, while Ty Higgins chipped in 13 and Adam Flauto scored 11 off the bench as Roger Williams picked up its third straight conference victory.
Salve Regina (7-2, 1-0 NEWMAC) was led by Jack Margoupis, who finished with 32 points on 13-of-20 shooting, including six 3-pointers. Sean Seymour added 21 points, and Pat Spenard contributed 17 points and six rebounds for the Seahawks, who led 46–37 at the break.
Roger Williams used efficient perimeter shooting to climb back into the game, finishing 13-of-27 from three-point range. The Hawks also generated 20 fast-break points and received 28 points from their bench, helping swing momentum in the final 10 minutes.
After Salve Regina tied the game at 84 with 18 seconds remaining, Hammarlund set up the decisive possession, finding Ryan Higgins for a catch-and-shoot three at the buzzer to seal the victory.
Roger Williams (7-5, 3-0 CNE) will host Wentworth on Saturday, Jan. 3 at 3:00 pm before traveling to face Curry on Tuesday, Jan. 6 at 7:30 pm.
