Men's Basketball: Men Cap off Senior Day Sweep of Gordon

BRISTOL, R.I. - The Roger Williams men's basketball team defeated Gordon College 90-72 on Saturday afternoon, a day in which five Hawk seniors were recognized for the efforts and contributions to the program over the last four years.

In the first, Roger Williams was able to jump out to a 13-4 start, led by the five seniors who started in the matchup. It was Will MacDonald (York, Me.) who got off to a hot start, scoring nine of the squads first 13 points. The men pulled even further away from Gordon over the next four minutes, with the lead growing as large as 20, just 10 minutes into the half. Gordon was able to settle in following the Hawks run, narrowing the gap to just 10 behind an Alex Daniel three-point jumper on a feed from Bryce Smith. A Finn Miller (Stamford, Conn.) driving layup with five seconds to play would bring the Hawks lead back up to 12 to conclude the first frame.

The Hawks double digit first half lead was a credit to their 44.4% shooting from the field and 37% shooting from three-point distance. Additionally, the men led the turnover battle over the opponent, turning it over five times to Gordon's eight.

Out of the half, Gordon was able to narrow the lead to eight just 2:30 into the half, however Roger Williams pulled back away with an 8-2 run to bring their lead back to 14. They would control a double digit until the 10:00 mark, with a Drew Brander driving layup narrowed the Hawks victory to just nine. They would quickly respond with three straight baskets, putting the game out of reach altogether. The Hawks lead grew as large as 22 points with 2:30 to play, as they closed out the victory, 90-72.

All five seniors contributed points for the Hawks in the victory, headlined by Will MacDonalds 22 points on 4/6 shooting from long distance. Mac Annus (Belmont, Mass.) added 20 of his own, to go along with six rebounds in the winning effort. For Gordon, Bernie McGuinness led the way with 17 points. Drew Brander added 10 of his own off the bench.

Following the victory, the Hawks move to 16-7 overall and 11-5 in Conference of New England play. In their next matchup, the men will travel to Endicott where they look to improve on their position of fourth place in the CNE. The Gulls currently hold the second spot in the standings, with Western New England leading the way.
