The Roger Williams University Men's Lacrosse team fell to MIT on Saturday afternoon on Bayside Field, 13-4, in a non-conference matchup.

Aaron D'Aversa made nine saves in the game, while
Kyle Zirn was responsible for three caused turnovers and six ground balls in the matchup to lead the Hawks' defense.
Jack Kester paced the RWU offense with three points, with one goal and a pair of assists.

For the Engineers, Garrett Campgana led the offense with four points, with three assists, while Zach Bleil had a pair of assists and a goal for three points. Nick Stiles, CJ Sanchez, and Bryce Metalios each had two goals in the contest.

Both teams had 20 clears in the matchup, with the Hawks converting 20 of their 24 attempts, while MIT finished off 20 of their 22 chances with success. MIT won the ground ball battle, 37-27, while also edging out the Hawks in faceoffs. Neither teaj was able to convert an extra-man opportunity.

MIT struck first, with Bleil scoring shortly after picking up a rebounded shot for the Engineers, and guiding it past D'Aversa. Off the ensuing faceoff, Palleiko picked up his own faceoff win, and quickly took a shot, taking a 2-0 lead. With 6:56 remaining in the opening quarter, Garrett Campgana got into the action, taking a pass from Bleil and firing a shot into the cage.

A few minutes later, Kester scored the first RWU goal of the game, rolled to his right, dodging a pair of defenders as he cut the deficit down to two. MIT put the lead back to three, scoring just 37 seconds later, taking a 4-1 advantage into the second frame.

With 5:38 remaining in the opening half, CJ Sanchez scored for the Engineers, pushing the lead to four goals, before scoring two goals in 26 seconds, as they took a 7-1 lead into the break.

In the second half, Metalios scored 2:08 into the third frame, before an own goal by the Hawks gave MIT a 9-1 lead. The Hawks responded a few moments later with a goal by
Eric Brooks with Hayden Calabretta responding in kind for MIT. A goal with 31 seconds remaining by the Engineers, was not the last goal of the quarter as Brooks struck with three seconds remaining, trailing 11-3 heading into the final quarter of action.

MIT scored twice in the fourth as the Hawks tallied one more goal in the frame.

Roger Williams (0-3, 0-0 CNE) will host Emmanuel on Wednesday, Feb. 26 at 3:00 pm on Bayside Field. The Hawks will then host Emerson on Saturday, Mar. 1 at 1:00 pm, before heading on the road to face Wheaton on Wednesday, Mar. 5 at 7:00 pm.
