BRISTOL, R.I. – Matt Lucas's 100
th career victory was not enough, as the Anchorman of Rhode Island College got by the Roger Williams University Wrestling team on Friday evening in New England Wrestling Association (NEWA) action.
Beginning the match at 125 pounds,
Christopher Tringali picked up a 9-3 victory by decision, before the Anchormen took a lead they would not relinquish, with an 11-2 major decision win by Kwesi Amoa. A win by Sebastian Armstrong over
Shaun McLaughlin, 5-0 would only extend the lead to 7-3 after the opening three matches.
Michael Pestana then took a win for RIC at 149 pounds, before Lucas downed Oscar Serrano with a pin in 3:22 picking up six points and collecting his 100
th career victory. RIC picked up a win by tech fall, 20-3, as Christopher McCarthy defeated his opponent before,
Joshua Nieroda earned an 8-5 win by decision to round out scoring for the Hawks.
RIC then wrapped up the match with pins in two of the final three matches of the day.
Roger Williams (16-8, 8-7 CNE) will round out duals for the season on Thursday, Feb. 13 at 8:00 pm. The Hawks will then take part in the NEWA Futures Tournament at Western New England on Sunday, Feb. 23 before taking part at the Regional Championships on Mar. 1 and Mar. 2.
