ORLANDO, Fla. (AP) — The Roger Williams University women's tennis team saw its season come to an end with a 7-0 defeat to Ohio Northern University on Tuesday at Fort Gatlin in Orlando, Florida.
The Polar Bears (7-2) swept all three doubles matches before claiming victories in all six singles contests to secure the win over the Hawks (14-6).
In doubles play, Ohio Northern's top pairing of Abby Cruser and Jenna Bell defeated Valentina Abarca and Gabrielle Petroniro, 6-1. The No. 2 duo of Miranda Wills and Lauren Okrainec earned a 6-0 win over Izzy Pecora and Ella Mancini, while Caroline Robinson and Leah Schleibaum topped Adriana Palmieri and Rose Hinsdale, 6-4, at No. 3.
The Polar Bears continued their dominance in singles, winning five of six matches in straight sets. Okrainec secured a 6-0, 6-3 victory at No. 1 over Pecora, while Bell defeated Abarca 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2. Cruser shut out Mancini, 6-0, 6-0, at No. 3, and Jamie Hurst earned a 6-0, 6-2 win over Palmieri at No. 4.
Roger Williams' closest match came at No. 5 singles, where Petroniro won the opening set 6-4 before falling 6-1 in the second and 13-11 in the third against Katie O'Connell. At No. 6, Julianne Sheldon completed the sweep for Ohio Northern with a 6-0, 6-0 win over Annette Carter.
The Hawks conclude their season with a 14-6 overall record, including a 4-2 mark in Confernce of New England (CNE) play.
