WINTER HAVEN, Fla. — The Roger Williams University Softball team shut out Husson, 3-0, on Friday at the Diamondplex behind a dominant pitching performance and a key fifth-inning rally.
For Roger Williams, Shannon Starratt led the offensive charge, going 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. Lucy Maurao also recorded two hits and drove in a run, while Ashley Klingberg contributed a hit and a run scored.
On the mound, Natalie Lundari (1-0) impressed in her first win of the season, tossing 4.1 shutout innings while allowing just four hits and striking out three. Quadros took over in relief, holding Husson scoreless over the final 2.2 innings.
For Husson (6-8), Camryn King went 1-for-3 with a stolen base, while Tori Exel and Lexi Volinsky each contributed doubles. Sky Johnson (3-3) turned in a strong performance despite taking the loss, pitching a complete game while striking out six and allowing seven hits.
The game remained scoreless through four innings before Roger Williams broke through in the fifth. After a defensive miscue by Husson, the Hawks capitalized with timely hitting. Maurao drove in the first run with a single, and shortstop Starrat followed with a two-run double to left-center to extend the lead to 3-0.
Husson was unable to respond, stranding seven runners throughout the contest.
Roger Williams (5-5, 0-0 CNE) will return to the field on Wednesday, Mar. 19 at 3:00 pm when they take on Coast Guard in a non-conference doubleheader. The Hawks will then host Wheaton on Tuesday, Mar. 25 at 2:30 pm.
