Men's Lacrosse: Hawks Claim NonConference Win Against ECSU

Bristol, RI – Roger Williams University Men's Lacrosse team commanded a 16-10 victory over the Eastern Connecticut State University Warriors their Saturday matchup at home on Bayside Field.

The Hawks wasted no time setting the tempo at the start of the game, with Matt Hemmert (Braintree, Mass.) opening the scoring just over 45 seconds into the match. Eastern Connecticut quickly responded with a goal from Mike Stevenson to tie things up at 1-1. However, the Hawks offense found their rhythm, as Eric Brooks (Milford, Mass.), assisted by Ben Selle (North Kingstown, R.I.), put the Hawks back in front. Hemmert then notched two consecutive goals, both assisted by Brooks, to give RWU a 4-1 lead at the end of the first quarter.

The second quarter saw the Warriors fight back with three consecutive goals from Cooper Piesco, Jacob Corso, and Connor Chirico to even the score at 4-4. The Hawks, however, reclaimed control as Hemmert netted his fourth goal of the game, followed by another from Matthew Araneo (Merrick, N.Y.). By halftime, the Hawks led 7-4.

The Hawks continued their offensive lead in the third quarter, with Will Kramer (Bedford, N.H.), Malcolm Steegstra (Gloucester, Mass.), and Jack Kester (Londonderry, N.H.) all finding the back of the net. Though the Warriors managed a goal from Logan Pych, the Hawks extended their lead to 14-5 by the end of the period with additional goals from Carter Shelton (Castle Rock, Colo.), Ryan Vendetti, (Farmington, Conn.) Andrew Daigneault (Winthrop, Mass.), and another by Steegstra.

In the final quarter, the Warriors attempted a comeback, as Warren Channing led the charge with four goals in the period. Fabio Tirado also added a goal for the Warriors. However, the Hawks kept their momentum going, with Brooks and Shelton each scoring to cement their 16-10 victory.

Roger Williams (4-5, 0-0 CNE) now turn to look forward to their next match at home against Hartford on Wednesday March 26th at 7:00 pm for their first conference matchup of the 2025 season.
