Softball: Roger Williams Rebounds for Game Two Victory Over Hartford

WEST HARTFORD, Conn.  — Roger Williams University's softball team bounced back from a game one loss to claim a 4-2 victory over the University of Hartford in the second game of their doubleheader on Saturday.

Roger Williams jumped out to an early lead in the first inning, scoring three runs, highlighted by an RBI double from shortstop Shannon Starratt and a run-scoring single by Ava Fairbanks. Hartford (9-8) responded in the second with two runs of its own, courtesy of a sacrifice fly from Lucy Lembo and an RBI double by Sarah Serrano, trimming the deficit to 3-2.

Roger Williams added an insurance run in the fourth inning when Hailey Williams drew a bases-loaded walk, bringing in Caroline Thomas to extend the lead to 4-2. The Hawks' pitching and defense took over from there, keeping Hartford off the scoreboard for the remainder of the game.

Starting pitcher Kiera Quadros (5-2) was dominant in the circle, allowing just four hits and two earned runs over seven innings while striking out five. She kept the Hartford offense in check, stranding four runners on base. Hartford's Ella Zobel (1-2) took the loss, surrendering four runs, three earned, on five hits in four innings of work.

Thomas led the way offensively for Roger Williams, going 3-for-3 at the plate, while Jaime Wells added two hits. The Hawks also took advantage of aggressive baserunning, swiping four bases, including a steal of home by Fairbanks in the first inning.

Hartford's offense was paced by A. Beebe, who doubled and scored a run, and Serrano, who recorded the team's lone RBI hit. However, they struggled to capitalize on opportunities, leaving key runners stranded.

Roger Williams (10-8, 3-1 CNE) will host Emmanuel on Wednesday, Apr. 2 at 2:30 pm for a doubleheader, ahead of traveling for a pair of contests at Endicott in CNE action on Saturday, Apr. 5.  The Hawks will then play on Sunday, Apr. 6 at Curry for a doubleheader to round out the week.
