HARTFORD, CONN. - Roger Williams fell 4-1 decision to Hartford in a seven-inning matchup on Monday afternoon at Fiondella Field in West Hartford. Despite grabbing an early lead, the Hawks couldn't hold off a big third inning from the Hawks of Hartford. Following the loss, Roger Williams falls to 11-15 and Hartford improves to 13-14.
Roger Williams opened the scoring in the first inning after Noah Hester singled and came around to score on a wild pitch following a series of pickoff errors and a walk to Sam Weigel. That would be the lone run for RWU, as Hartford starter Ryan Sheehy go on to deliver a complete game (seven innings), allowing just five hits and one earned run, while striking out seven He would secure the win, pushing his record to 4-2 on the year.
In the third, after loading the bases with one out, Hartford's Ryan Knight delivered a grand slam to right field that cleared the bases and gave the opponent a 4-1 lead. It was Knight's first home run of the season and accounted for all four Hartford RBIs in the in. He finished 2-for-2 with a double and homer to lead the attack for Hartford.
On the mound for Roger Williams, Jonathan Quinn was handed his first loss of the season, falling to 3-1. He pitched four innings, giving up four earned runs on three hits to go along with four walks. Nick Gleason provided two innings of relief, allowing just one hit and striking out three in the process.
Individually, the RWU was led by Owen Hibbard, who went 2-for-3, while Hester, Sam Weigel, and Ty Cali each added a hit. Sheehy kept the Hawk bats quiet for most of the night, with the Hawks managing just one major threat in the sixth, where they would end up leaving two base runners stranded.
Roger Williams will be right back in action on Tuesday, April 15th where they will take on Wentworth for another Conference of New England battle. They will look to improve on their 4-6 conference mark in that matchup.
