DUDLEY, Mass. - Roger Williams University secured a 17-6 road win over Nichols College on Tuesday afternoon at Vendetti Field in Dudley, Mass. The Hawks jumped out of the gate with an 8-0 first-quarter lead and never looked back, outscoring Nichols in three of the four quarters. With the win, Roger Williams improves to 8-7 on the season and 4-2 in conference play, while Nichols falls to 3-13 (1-6 CNE).
The Hawks controlled the Bison in just about every statistical category in the contest. They outshot Nichols 65-28 overall, won 21 of 27 faceoffs and collected 46 ground balls compared to Nichols' 30. Defensively, the Hawks forced 20 Nichols turnovers and limited the Bison to just two goals in the first and third quarters combined.
Offensively, Matt Hemmert led the way with a game-high five goals and two assists. Brady Lee chipped in with a hat trick and two assists, while Malcolm Steegstra also netted three goals. Carter Shelton and Eric Brooks each scored twice, and Ryan Vendetti added one goal and two assists. Jack Kester chipped in three assists, while faceoff specialist David Rizzo went 19-for-24 at the X and scooped up a team-high 18 ground balls. Goalie Aaron D'Aversa earned the win with seven saves in nearly 50 minutes of action, and Logan Dudley added four saves in relief.
For Nichols, CJ Cadigan and Ayden Lockard each had two goals, with Lockard adding an assist. Kane Williams and Conor Doherty also found the net. Goalie Brady Morgan tallied 18 saves for the Bison in the loss.
Roger Williams will look to carry this momentum into their next contest when they return home to take on University of New England in another Conference of New England matchup. Following UNE, the Hawks will take on Wentworth to wrap up their regular season.
