BRISTOL, R.I. — Eight members of the Roger Williams University men's lacrosse team were honored with postseason recognition by the Conference of New England (CNE), as announced by the league office on Thursday.
Senior defenseman
Kyle Zirn led the way for RWU, earning First Team All-Conference after setting the program record for caused turnovers in a season. Zirn appeared in all 18 games for the Hawks, collecting 84 ground balls and forcing 57 turnovers, while also leading the conference in caused turnovers.
Attackers
Matt Hemmert and
Jack Kester were both named to the All-Conference Second Team. Hemmert, who played in 12 games, was a top scorer with 37 goals and 10 assists. Kester led the team in points with 53, off of 17 goals and 36 assists, over 18 starts.
Eric Brooks also earned Second Team honors at midfield, notching 33 goals and 16 assists. While picking up 26 ground balls.
Malcolm Steegstra and
Ryan Vendetti were recognized on the All-Conference Third Team. Steegstra tallied 34 points off 24 goals and 10 assists, while picking up 18 ground balls, while Vendetti tallied 20 goals, nine assists, with 19 pick-ups and four caused turnovers.
Defensively,
Alex Burrill had 39 ground balls, 17 caused turnovers, and
Eric Izzo earned 51 ground balls with 23 caused turnovers, with both being named to the Third Team.
Senior
Max Kimmel was also named to the CNE Community Service Team.
Roger Williams closed their season with a 9-9 record, going 5-3 within CNE action. The Hawks saw the Hawks close their season in the first round of the conference tournament, falling to No. 5 Western New England.
