BEVERLY, Mass. — No. 4 Roger Williams University edged No. 5 Suffolk University 1-0 in the opening round of the Conference of New England (CNE) Softball Tournament on Wednesday behind a dominant no-hit performance from Reagan Germano.
Germano (9-6) went the distance for the Hawks, striking out five and walking two across seven innings, securing a no-hitter in the process. The no-hitter is the first of Germano's career. At the dish there were five hits in the contest, all by Roger Williams. Shannon Starratt, and Kayleigh O'Connor each had a single, while Christina Denovellis had a pair of hits. Ashley Klingberg recorded the game's only extra base hit in the bottom of the third inning,
The game's only run came in the bottom of the fourth inning. Starratt led off with a single up the middle and later came around to score on a bases-loaded walk drawn by center fielder Vianna Chamberlin.
Suffolk's Cynthia Rucinski (8-11) took the loss. She allowed just one earned run on five hits while striking out four across six innings of work.
Suffolk (16-21) was held hitless, managing just two baserunners via walks and advancing only one to scoring position in the seventh.
Roger Williams (23-16, 11-7 CNE) will take on No. 1 Endicott at 3:00 pm.
