BRISTOL, R.I. – Roger Williams University Athletics announced staff promotions for both its men's and women's basketball programs, elevating longtime assistant coaches
Michelle Spreda and
Mark Ward to Associate Head Coach.
Spreda has been a cornerstone of the Hawks' women's basketball program for the past seven years, serving as assistant coach under Head Coach
Kelly Thompson. She has been instrumental in the team's sustained success.
"For the past seven years,
Michelle Spreda has been an invaluable asset to our program," Thompson said. "Her loyalty, tireless work ethic, and ability to connect with our athletes have made her an exceptional assistant coach. She is an outstanding teacher and a phenomenal recruiter, and I couldn't ask for a better right-hand woman. Her promotion to Associate Head Coach is well-deserved, and I am thrilled to continue our work together."
On the men's side, Ward has brought experience to RWU over the last four years, contributing to the development of student-athletes both on and off the court. With 36 years of combined high school and collegiate coaching experience, he has built a reputation for his leadership, mentorship, and recruiting impact.
"It's an honor to recognize Coach Ward with this well-deserved promotion to Associate Head Coach," said Head Coach
Mike Tully. "With 36 years of coaching experience at both the high school and college levels, he brings a wealth of knowledge, leadership, and integrity to our program. His impact goes far beyond the game. He's been a mentor, a tireless recruiter, and a true builder of young men. We are grateful for his unwavering commitment to our athletes over the last four years, and we're excited for what lies ahead under his continued guidance."
Both coaches will continue to play pivotal roles in shaping the future of RWU Basketball as the programs prepare for the upcoming seasons.
