WORCESTER, Mass. – The Roger Williams University women's tennis team opened its 2025-26 season with a commanding 7-0 sweep of Clark University on Saturday afternoon at the Corash Tennis Courts.
The Hawks (1-0) dominated doubles play, winning all three matches. Sophomore Valentina Abarca (Riobamba, Ecuador) and first-year Megan Bache (Westbrook, Conn.) secured a 6-3 win at the top flight. Senior Izzy Pecora (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) and junior Ella Mancini (Middlebury, Conn.) added a 6-1 victory at number two, while juniors Adriana Palmieri (Southington, Conn.) and Gabrielle Petroniro (Wolcott, Conn.) completed the sweep with a 6-0 decision at number three.
Roger Williams carried that momentum into singles, where the Hawks won all six matches in straight sets. Abarca opened with a 6-0, 6-2 victory at number one, followed by Pecora's 6-2, 6-3 win at number two and Mancini's 6-4, 6-2 decision at number three. Bache posted a flawless 6-0, 6-0 result at number four, while Palmieri notched a 6-2, 6-0 win at number five. Petroniro closed out the match at number six, rallying for a 4-6, 6-2, 10-2 comeback victory.
Roger Williams (4-0, 0-0 CNE) will face Curry on Tuesday, Sept. 16 at 6:00 pm on the RWU Tennis Courts.
